The Town of Gore held a special meeting Monday to discuss the Gore Public Works Authority’s employee handbook and to adopt a resolution about the employee’s paid time off (PTO).

Horace Lindley, Gore town administrator, said during the meeting the council members discussed the town employees’ sick and vacation time. Lindley said employees with the town will now accrue hours for any type of time off the employee needs—sick or vacation. He said before adopting the resolution, the employees had separate sick time and vacation time and could buy out what time they had at the end of the year if the PTO wasn’t used. Lindley said being able to buy out vacation or sick time was costing the town a lot of money.

“A lot of the employees weren’t taking time off for vacation or sick leave. Everyone needs a break. It’s not healthy to not take one,” Lindley said.

Lindley said now the employees PTO will cap off at 240 hours and the amount of time accrued is determined by the amount of time worked.

“It will work better for the town and for the employees,” Lindley said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
