Sallisaw Police Chief Shaloa Edwards speaks during a tense Sallisaw City Commission meeeting Monday night. The commission, based on “leadership issues” and other problems in the police department, changed a city ordinance by unanimous 5-0 vote so that the police chief’s powers could be given to the city manager, Bill Baker. Baker immediately assigned Police Capt. Beau Gabbert to oversee the day-to-day operations of the department. The resolution to remove the chief’s powers is for a 90-day period.
