The mother of a 7-month old infant and her boyfriend face charges of failure to protect a child and at least one charge of child abuse after the taking the baby to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., with second-degree burns to the face and scalp.

Morgan Crow, 23, of Moffett was arrested Sunday after investigators were called to the hospital to investigate a suspected case of child abuse.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said Crow took the infant to the hospital on Sunday where she allegedly said the injuries happened Saturday, while her boyfriend, Alexander Turner, 26, of Arkoma, but living in Moffet, was supposed to be watching the baby.

The infant was life-flighted to the Little Rock Children’s Burn Center. The hospital would not release information on the child.

Crow was arrested for not seeking medical attention for the child sooner.

Turner complied with the sheriff’s request for an interview and according to investigator Cindy Smith was taken into custody late Tuesday and was arrested for child abuse.

Turner was booked into Sequoyah County Jail where his bond was set at $100,000.

Lockhart said Turner has a 2013 charge from Sebastian County for second-degree battery to his own children.

Lockhart said it appears the baby was burned from scalding water from the kitchen sink.
