Dear Editor:

I have started a new organization called the Victims of Violence Organization. VOVO is a new charitable organization that helps individuals who have been victimized.

Violence is an ongoing issue and it hurts the individual more than we are aware. Violence is not just inflicted on women and children; there are more men coming forward. Violence is not just spousal abuse or child abuse; there are more and more cases of violence against people every day. Violence is happening daily and most of us aren’t even aware of it.

Violence can be in the form of physical harm, words, spousal abuse, child abuse, bullying, rape, abuse against gays/lesbians, verbal abuse, etc.; it hurts us all, not just the victims. The Victims of Violence Organization was formed to help these individuals with basic needs such as toiletries, food, diapers, clothes and any other item we may have that they need.

We also assist in finding them safe shelter from the abuse.

We are holding two fundraisers at this time. The first one is a cookbook, and we need recipes and advertisers for our cookbook. There are various levels of advertising that can be purchased, from full-page ads to one-line ads.

The second is the 1st Annual Rods Rims ‘n Riders Car & Bike Show fundraiser on October 6 at Ben Geren Park in Fort Smith, Ark. We need sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and car/truck/motorcycle entrants. There are various levels of sponsorships available, from Title Sponsor to Trophy Sponsor to Individual Sponsor.

There is a discount for early bird vehicle registration and a “reserve two spaces and get one free” for vendors.

The first 200 entrants on the day of the show will receive an RPM Bag (goodie bag). We are also accepting donations of items that can be used as prizes for our drawings at the car show. Our main drawings will be for three seven-night vacations (must be present to win).

One-hundred percent of the proceeds from both fundraisers, after expenses, will go to the Victims of Violence Organization.

We are also in the process of locating a building to open a resale store, L.O.V.E (Love Out Violence Everyday), which will also benefit VOVO. We are accepting donations for L.O.V.E. as well.
