The Spiro Mounds Archaeological Venter will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Thursday through Tuesday, Dec. 1. The regular hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday. The center is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and state holidays.

A Fifth Sunday Singing will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, eight and a half miles north of Muldrow. A potluck dinner will be served after the morning services. The Liberty Belles and Living Water singers will be featured.

A legislative seminar for retired educators will be held from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday at the Western Sizzlin restaurant in Muskogee. All retirees are encouraged to attend and discuss helping educators and informing legislators of goals and needs. Refreshments will be served. The Sequoyah County Women’s Democrat Christmas Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the fair barn at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. State Auditor Steve Burrage will be the guest speaker. Tickets are $15 each or eight for $125, and may be bought at the door or from a club member. Nominations for the Sequoyah County Junior Livestock Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. The county entry fee is $10 per head. The newly organized Vian Future Farmers of America (FFA) Booster Club will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Cazadores Restaurant in Vian to discuss membership, elect officers and discuss fundraisers. Any may join the Booster Club whether they have a child in FFA or attending school. The club is open to anyone who wants to support the Vian FFA program. Businesses, individuals and families are asked to participate. Dues will be $5 per year per person. Club members hope to help FFA students with traveling expenses throughout the year and any unexpected expenses that may occur. The 12th annual Green Country Opry Christmas Music Show will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Tommie Spear Middle School Auditorium in Sallisaw. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children 10 and under will be admitted free. Proceeds will benefit foster and special needs children in Sequoyah County.
