The Sequoyah County Women’s Democrat Christmas Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the fair barn at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. State Auditor Steve Burrage will be the guest speaker. Tickets are $15 each or eight for $125, and may be bought at the door or from a club member. The Blackgum Community Center and Fire Department will hold a half-price sale and $1-per-bag of clothing sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the community center, one mile east of Tenkiller Dam or two and one-third miles west of McQuicks on State Highway 100. All proceeds go to the Blackgum Volunteer Fire Department Community Center.

A fundraising chili dinner will be held at noon Saturday at Akins Baptist Church by the Central Fire Department. Those attending may have all-you-can-eat chili for $5 or a bowl of chili for $2.50.

Nominations for the Sequoyah County Junior Livestock Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. The county entry fee is $10 per head. The livestock show will be held Feb. 25 and 26. An All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Masonic Lodge No. 120 across from Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. The menu includes pancakes, biscuits, gravy, sausage, milk, coffee, and orange juice for $4 for adults and $2 for children under age 12.

Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw will hold the annual Hospice Christmas Tree Lighting, to remember deceased loved ones, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10. The lighting will be held at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw and is open to anyone who has lost a loved one. Ornaments will be decorated with the loved one’s name. Those who would like a photo of their loved one on the ornament should send the photo to Hospice Tree Lighting, P.O. Box 505, Sallisaw, Okla. 74955. The photo will be returned. To order an ornament call Vernon Stone at (918) 774-1171. The family will receive the ornament after the lighting.

The newly organized Vian Future Farmers of America (FFA) Booster Club will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Cazadores Restaurant in Vian to discuss membership, elect officers and discuss fundraisers. Any may join the Booster Club whether they have a child in FFA or attending school. The club is open to anyone who wants to support the Vian FFA program. Businesses, individuals and families are asked to participate. Dues will be $5 per year per person. Club members hope to help FFA students with traveling expenses throughout the year and any unexpected expenses that may occur. Butterscotch or Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar will be taught at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Muldrow Cherokee Community Center. The class will also teach decorating the jar for a Christmas gift, and participants will take home their jar of gift cookie ingredients. The class coordinator is Sue Sherer.

Revival Fires Church at 822 S. Elm in Sallisaw has an Angel Tree and anyone is invited to choose an angel to buy gifts for. Angels may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, until Dec. 11, at the church. The gifts must be returned by Dec. 17, and will be distributed by Dec. 20. The church will be taking names until Dec. 9.
Saturday, Dec. 12
The Garrison Creek Riders will hold their shodeo banquet at the Muldrow High School cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. The dinner will be pot luck and the club will furnish soft drinks, utensils, chips and meat. Those planning to attend are asked to bring side dishes, breads and desserts for their family plus one.
