The Gore and Webbers Falls Chambers of Commerce this week announced this year’s Christmas Parade Theme, A Musical Christmas, chosen by a joint committee of both chambers.

The parades will again be coordinated by Judy Merrill and Larry Carter, and is backed by the Town of Gore, both Chambers of Commerce, and business members of both chambers.

The parade will be on Dec. 12 beginning in Webbers Falls at 10 a.m., with the line-up at 9 a.m., and continuing, over the bridge, to Gore. The line-up in Gore will start at 10 a.m. and the parade itself will begin at 11 a.m., ending at the Gore Fire Station where Santa Claus will greet parade goers.

Rena Thorstensen, Gore Chamber of Commerce media liaison, said the Gore Chamber of Commerce has arranged for the Shriners to entertain during the parade. The Gore and Webbers Falls Chambers of Commerce will make a donation to the Shriners, and in turn the Shriners will use that money to help children through their many charitable activities. Also, during the parade, the Town of Gore will be holding an Open House at City Hall and serving hot drinks and refreshments.

Thorstensen said, “All businesses which are members of either Chamber of Commerce, as well as area churches and civic groups, are invited to enter a float in the parade. Floats are to be designed around a favorite Christmas carol or song, in keeping with the theme, A Musical Christmas.

“It’s easy to visualize a float that might depict ‘Away in a Manger,’ ‘Silent Night,’ ‘Oh, Christmas Tree,’ ‘Blue Christmas,’ ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town,’ ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,’ ‘Frosty the Snowman,’ ‘Hark! the Herald Angels Sing,’ ‘Jingle Bells,’ ‘Jingle Bell Rock,’ ‘White Christmas,’ or ‘Here Comes Santa Claus.’  Wouldn’t it be fun to see a float with everyone dressed as Elvis Presley singing ‘Blue Christmas?’  Floats can either have singers singing their chosen song, or playing it from the float during the parade.”

Those planning a float should choose a song, notify the appropriate chamber which song has been chosen, and then decorate their float according to that song.  Linda Bighorse at (918) 489-5027 from the Gore chamber, and Emily Ogg at (918) 464-2625 from the Webbers Falls chamber will be coordinating song choices to prevent duplications. Those planning floats are asked to inform Linda or Emily, respectively, of which song has been chosen.

All residents are urged to plan to attend the Musical Christmas parade, and to mark this not-to-be-missed event on their calendars now. More information will be forthcoming in this paper as final plans for the parade develop, Thorstensen said.
