SOUTH COFFEYVILLE - Jake Hayden passed for a touchdown and ran for another on Friday night to guide South Coffeyville to a 30-12 win over Cave Springs.
Hayden tossed a 14-yard TD pass to Brad Lumby to hand the Lions a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and later added a 33-yard TD run.
Gunner Garretson ran 5 yards for his second touchdown of the night in the second half before Kyle Cantrell sealed the win for South Coffeyville by recovering a fumble in the end zone for a 30-6 lead in the fourth period.
Cave Springs slipped to 2-6 overall and 1-6 in District B-4 despite touchdowns from Noah Cochran and Charles Ketcher.
Cochran tied the game at 6-6 in the first period with a 29-yard interception return. Ketcher’s touchdown came on a 20-yard pass from Two Leaf Ross in the fourth quarter.
Zach Smith led Cave Springs in rushing with 51 yards on 13 carries. Ketcher added 30 yards on four attempts. Ross completed 3 of 5 passes for 68 yards and Smith completed three more for 51 yards. Ketcher was the Hornets’ top receiver with four catches for 72 yards. Ross caught two for 44.
The Hornet defense was led by Jack Proctor with 11 tackles and an interception and Tyke Bunch with nine tackles.
Michael O’Donnell ran for a game-high 92 yards on 10 carries for South Coffeyville, which improved to 2-6 and 2-4. Garretson ran for 75 yards and Hayden completed 6 of 11 passes for 57 yards.
