Sequoyah County Commissioners put the reappointment of Dana Tracy to the Sequoyah County 911 board on their next agenda at their meeting Monday.

Charles “Chuck” Wyckoff, 911 board chairman, said Tracy was up for reappointment to the board last week, but the re-appointment was not on the agenda last week or this week.

“I knew it (a discussion on the 911 board) was tabled, but I thought it would be brought back this week,” Wyckoff said.

District 1 Commissioner Bruce Tabor explained that the discussion of the 911 board had been tabled until further notice, but a definite date was not set. The commissioners agreed to put Tracy’s reappointment on next Monday’s agenda.

Wyckoff said that he was paid mileage for driving around the county to check on new road signs that are being installed, and other 911-related business. But when the three-person board was one short, it was hard to get paid, he said.

County commissioners discussed the organization of Sequoyah County 911 last month. District 2 Commissioner Steve Carter said he wanted to expand the board to five or seven members, so that 911 business and improvements could be completed in a more timely manner.

But Wyckoff responded he thought that plan was “a slap in the face to the current board,” which has worked to improve the 911 service. He said the current 911 board — Wyckoff, Tracy and Larry Vinson — hope to remain until the naming of roads and addressing was completed. When that is finished, AT&T is to take over the updating of records, which will make dispatching 911 services easier.

At that time the commissioner tabled a decision on expanding the 911 board until this month.

Sequoyah County 911 covers all telephone exchanges in Sequoyah County except the 427- telephone exchange which has its own 911 service.

Other Business

The commissioners approved naming a portion of State Highway 64B, north of Muldrow, as the Rex F. Scott Jr. Road. Tabor said the Scott family has lived in that area for many years and petitioned to have the road renamed.

Wyckoff also reported to the commissioners that Sequoyah County 911 has received the first draft of a map book for the central and western sections of the county. He said the board will work with the 911 board in the 427- telephone exchange so that the two 911 services will have complete maps of the entire county.

$100,000 Not Missing

At an earlier meeting with the county’s budget maker, Vicky Wilson of Shawnee, she reported that when working on the county’s budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year she could not account for $100,000 from last year’s budget.

County Clerk Vicki Sawney said after Monday’s meeting that Wilson had looked at the figures incorrectly.

Sawney said the budget maker failed to take into consideration about $100,000 in expenditures for which the county was reimbursed. The county budget for last year is in balance, Sawney said.
