Eastside and Liberty Elementary Schools in Sallisaw will be hosting a H1N1 shot clinic on Wednesday for elementary students.
School nurse, Jimmie Lou Stites said an information flyer and a consent form would be sent home with each student for the parents to look over and sign if the parents wish to let their child participate in getting the free vaccine. Stites said only children with a signed consent form will be immunized.
The Oklahoma Department of Health is providing the voluntary immunization shot clinic. The FluMist and the injectable flu vaccine will be available.
The Health Department reported that the single best way to help prevent the spread of the 2009 H1N1 flu and the seasonal flu is to get a flu vaccination each year.
An information sheet about the flu states the new strain of influenza virus spreads from person to person, through coughing, sneezing and sometimes through touching objects contaminated with the virus.
The signs of the 2009 H1N1 virus can include, fatigue, fever, sore throat, muscle aches, chills, coughing and sneezing. People can also experience diarrhea and vomiting.
Severe reactions to the vaccine can include high fever or behavior changes. A severe allergic reaction can include difficulty breathing, hoarseness or wheezing, hives, paleness, weakness, a fast hear beat and dizziness. If anyone has questions about the flu vaccine contact the H1N1 hot line at 1-866-278-7134.
Is there any updates if this students already received the vaccine? Thanks!
