Deputies say when Jacob W. Catron hugged his mom Sunday night he allegedly told her he was going to help her die and began stabbing her in the back.

Catron, 25, of Muldrow allegedly stabbed his mother, Connie Catron, three times before she was able to escape and run to a nearby neighbor’s house to call 911.

Sequoyah County Deputy Greg Peters was already on the scene when Deputy Lance Yoakum arrived at 11:05 p.m. Yoakum reported seeing large pools of blood on the sidewalk and in the living room. Yoakum said he also saw blood splattered all over the walls.

Connie Catron was taken by ambulance to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., where she was admitted in serious condition. Yoakum said Connie Catron was stabbed multiple times in the back and her hands were badly cut.

At press time, Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said Connie Catron was still at the hospital, has undergone surgery and is now listed in stable condition.

According to the report, investigator Eric Helms spoke with Connie Catron at the hospital. She told Helms her son, Jacob Catron, came to her home at 10 p.m. and told her he left something in her home. She said when Jacob Catron started to leave he hugged her and told her ‘he was going to help her die’ then began stabbing her in the back.

Connie Catron told Helms that her son stabbed her twice but she was able to break free and try blocking Jacob from stabbing her more. She said that is how she received multiple cuts on her hands. According to the report, when Connie Catron tried to get out of the house, Jacob Catron stabbed her again in the back.

Connie Catron said while she was running away from her home she heard her car start up and saw it leaving her home Yoakum reported.

Lockhart said during the investigation, the sheriff’s office learned Jacob Carton drove to his dad’s home in Adair County where he got into an argument with his father and left his home. After Jacob Catron left his father’s home he was involved in a car accident two miles south of Stillwell. According to the report, Jacob Catron was taken by ambulance to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

On Monday, Jacob Catron was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and larceny of an automobile in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw. A felony warrant for his arrest was issued Monday in Sequoyah County. His bond is set at $50,000.

Lockhart said a Washington County (Ark.) Deputy was standing guard near Jacob Catron’s hospital room waiting for the suspects medical release. He said when he is released he will be taken into custody and transported to the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s office.
