Vian’s annual Red Fern Festival will be Oct. 31 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Vian Town Park.

An antique tractor show, quilt show, art show, car show, chili cook off, live music and other activities have already been planned and vendors for crafts, food and other booths are currently being sought, Suzanne Sullivan, festival committee member, said.

The Vian Chamber of Commerce will host a car, motorcycle, truck and mini truck show, and a poker run and walk for this year’s event with registration beginning at 10 a.m. and closing at noon.

Cost for the car show and poker walk is $20 and $25 for the bike poker run. Desk plaques will be available for the first 100 to sign up, Verlita Meade said.

Awards will be given at 3 p.m. for the best hot rod, best custom (car, bike, truck and mini-truck), overall Chamber Choice (car, bike, truck and mini-truck), overall best chrome, overall best paint and overall best interior, Meade said.

For more information, contact Meade at (918) 773-8228 or Jimmy Carlin at (918) 773-8457.

Vian will also be looking for the best chili recipe in town. A chili cook off will start at 10 a.m. downtown and everyone, including residents, policemen, firemen, pastors, churches, businesses and city employees, are encouraged to bring out their chili and enter the competition for a good old fashioned cook off. For more information on this event, call (918) 773-8799.

Live music will also be played throughout the day featuring local country music recording artists Heath Wright and Greg Cook of Ricochet, along with Tim Sullivan and other various local musicians.

“Come out and bring lawn chairs for some great concerts,” Sullivan said.

Other events include games for the kids, dunk-a-cop, food, door prizes and for a small donation a Fish On Guide Service with Delmer Shoults for a party of two valued at $300 will be given away.

Anyone interested in participating or volunteering at this year’s festival or wanting to set up a booth contact Sullivan at (918) 773-8930 or 773-7362.
