Jim Rogers of Sallisaw announces he will be a candidate for District 3 County Commissioner in 2010.

The post is now held by Mike Huff of Sallisaw, who has indicated he will seek a second term as the District 3 Commissioner.

Rogers said, “I was born and raised in Sequoyah County and come from several generations of life-long residents of Sequoyah County,

“I have truly been blessed to own and operate my own business — Gem’s Rent to Own and Pawn and Gun — in downtown Sallisaw for the past 16 years.”

Rogers and his wife Reneé have been married for 22 years and the couple has three children: Mike and wife, Kendall; Laceé and husband, Chris Poindexter; and one child still living at home, Trey.

“Our newest addition to our family is grandson Landon Kage, better known as the Boss,” Rogers said. “My wife and I feel that Sequoyah County has been a great place to raise our family and we look forward to watching Kage grow up and become a viable member of Sequoyah County.”

Rogers said, “I have always been involved and supported the growth of our community. I was a co-founder of the Sequoyah County Youth League, which brought youth activities not only to Sallisaw but all of Sequoyah County. I am proud of the Youth League and the experiences it brings to today’s youth. My youngest son, Trey, who is a senior this year not only participated in the Youth League as a player, he now volunteers his time as a Youth League basketball coach.”

Rogers said he thanked all of his supporters when he ran for office in 2006.

“I was honored, grateful and humbled by your support,” Rogers said. “I know that Sequoyah County has an abundance of potential and by working together we can make a difference.

“My promise to the residents of Sequoyah County District 3 is that I will work as hard for you from the first day that I take office to the day that I leave office. I believe as parents and grandparents, we need to do our part to make Sequoyah County a better place for future generations.

“With that said,” Rogers said, “I would like to ask for your support in the election for District 3 County Commissioner in 2010. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me by e-mail at jimrogers4dist3@yahoo.com or Facebook search Jim Rogers.

“If you like the more old-fashioned approach please come by and visit with me at Gem’s Rent to Own at 210 E. Cherokee. I look forward to hearing from you.”
