Roll over sends 10 to hospital

An early morning accident Tuesday on Interstate 40 near the ext on Sallisaw’s east side sent eight people to area hospitals after their Ford Explorer truck rolled over.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported Zunun Faustino-Valazquez, 30, of White Oak, N.C., was driving a 2001 Ford Sport Track east on Interstate 40 at 6:37 a.m. when a tire blew out.

The driver lost control of the truck, which ran off the road on the right side and overturned one and half times coming to rest on its top, OHP Trooper Adam Wood reported.

Hilberto Ramirez, 16, of White Oak was pinned under the truck and was freed by bystanders, Wood said.

Ramirez was transported to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., and was admitted in critical condition with head and internal injuries, Wood said.

Passengers Eutiquio Villanueza, 28, and Adan Banten-Perez, 23, was treated and released from Sparks, Juan Ramirez, 25 was admitted to St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith in serious condition with multiple injuries, Judith Martina, 19, was admitted to Sparks in serious condition with a neck injury, and Ernesto Pasente-Besente, 33, was admitted to Sparks in serious condition with multiple injuries. All are from White Oak.

Passengers Ernesto Orlando, 20, and Pedro Ramos, 41, of White Oak were not injured.

Seatbelts were not in use, Wood said.
