Steve Russell, who lives on Redland Road south of Muldrow, announced this week he will be a candidate for District 1 County Commissioner.
The incumbent, Bruce Tabor, said Tuesday, “I have no intention of seeking a seventh term at this time.”
Tabor is serving his sixth term as the District 1 County Commissioner, a post he has held since 1987.
Russell said, “I am 41 years old and a registered Democrat. I am a life-long resident of Muldrow, I attended Muldrow and Gans School and I graduated from Gans School in 1986.
“I have been married to Jill Russell for 15 years. We have three children, Christain Davis, Lindsey and Nicholas Russell.”
Russell said he has owned and managed several businesses.
“In the last 22 years I have owned and managed businesses in the homebuilding and construction industry, in land developments and in building roads that are now maintained by the county,” Russell said. “I have managed and helped operate a cattle and farm business for the last 25 years. In all these businesses I have been involved in their financial management.
“I have all the education required to be an Oklahoma real estate appraiser.”
Russell said he is ready to do the work of a county commissioner.
“I know maintaining a budget is a critical factor in this position, and that maintaining your road construction in District No. 1 will be my main priority as your elected full-time county commissioner,” Russell said.
“I will greatly appreciate your vote and support in the upcoming primary election,” Russell said.
According to the Oklahoma State Election Board Web Site the primary election will be July 27 and a runoff election, if needed, will be Aug. 24. The general election is Nov. 2.
