Sallisaw School Board of Education members approved a resolution during the Oct. 12 meeting calling for an election for ward 5.

“Bill Orendorff has been a member for 15 years,” Ron Wyrick, School superintendent, said.

He said Orendorff’s five-year term is up and now the annual school election-filing period for candidates will open at 8 a.m. Dec. 7. Orendorff is expected to run for re-election.

The filing period will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 9 or when the Sequoyah County Election Board Office closes for business that day. Wyrick said the election will be held Feb. 9.

In other business, Miranda Farmer was employed as a new paraprofessional at Liberty Elementary School. All encumbrances, minutes and reports were approved.

The next school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at the administrative building located at 701 S. J.T. Stites Blvd in Sallisaw.
