Webbers Falls will make the first of two consecutive road trips of over 100 miles Friday night when the Warriors visit Agra in a non-district game.
The kickoff at Agra, which is located about 25 miles southeast of Stillwater on State Highway 18, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Class B Bearcats are 0-4 for the season after losing at Kiefer (52-6) last week. The Lincoln County school has also fallen to Coyle (41-6), Bowlegs (51-6) and Oklahoma Christian Academy (14-8).
Eight of Agra’s skilled players are Cody Combs (5-foot-11, 165-pound senior), Justin Hutchinson (6-1, 160, senior), Brady Brownell (6-1, 170, junior), John Somers (5-7, 140, sophomore), Jeremy Tugend (5-5, 130, sophomore), Jonathon Leal-McBride (5-2, 110, junior), Daniel Leal-McBride (5-4, 155, freshman) and David Korn (5-8, 150, freshman).
“From what I can tell, their two main offensive players are 28 (Brady Brownell), their quarterback and 5 (Cody Combs), their tailback,” Webbers Falls’ head coach Brandon Luttrell said. “They’re pretty straightforward on offense, and they’ll run the I-formation and the spread. They’ll run a couple of reverse plays but not a lot of trick plays.
“They like to pass a lot, and a key for our defense is defending the pass. We want to put pressure on their quarterback and stick to their receivers and make them keep it on the ground. We want to keep constant pressure in the backfield. I think we’ll be successful if we can do those things.”
Eight of the Bearcats’ players in the trenches are Garren Eyestone (5-10, 200, junior), Cody Laxton (6-2, 240, junior), Brian Findley (6-0, 200, sophomore), Matthew McEntire (5-9, 230, sophomore), J.J. Wieczorek (5-11, 225, sophomore), Chris Lightener (5-9, 135, sophomore), Eathan Turner (5-7, 145, freshman) and Jonah Bond (5-8, 170, freshman).
“On defense they mainly stay in a 3-2, and they like to send an extra guy or two,” remarked Luttrell. “Every now and then they run a 4-front with a linebacker and they run some 4-2 stack.
“Controlling the line of scrimmage is a key for our offense, because if we can control the line of scrimmage we can control the game. We have a lot of young kids and they don’t have that concept yet, but we stress it a lot and we’re getting better at it. Maud was bigger, stronger and faster than we were last week, but we did real well against them.
“We’re starting to get chemistry going and we’re playing as a team more.”
Webbers Falls is also 0-4 overall, and last week the Warriors dropped a 33-12 decision to ninth-ranked Maud.
