John R. Bennett, originally of Vian who now resides in the Sallisaw area, was recently recognized by the Oklahoma Federal Executive Board as Federal Employee of the Year for his work with veterans.

According to the award, “Bennett, as a member of the Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom Combat Care Team, carried out the responsibility of coordinating care for the severely injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. As an Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran himself, his enthusiasm, dedication and commitment are irreproachable. His efforts in helping Americas veterans is nothing short of amazing and demonstrates the spirit that defines the care for our nations returning war veterans. Mr. Bennett has made such a positive impact and been such a proactive advocate for our veterans that a large number of veterans organizations have personally invited him to attend briefings in Washington, D.C., to discuss issues affecting veterans, as well as introduce and recommend national level programs such as the Veterans Court and Veterans Mitigation Sentencing Bill affecting Veterans nationwide.”
