A rural Sallisaw man was shot to death late Thursday during a domestic dispute, Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart reported.

Lockhart said Friday morning that the sheriff’s office was called to the home of Keith Foreman, 47, at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday. He reported that Foreman’s body was found in the home with a single gunshot to the chest. Foreman’s body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Tulsa, Lockhart said.

Foreman’s home is about seven miles south of Sallisaw and about two miles west of U.S. Highway 59, on a county road known locally as Lancaster Boulevard.

Lockhart reported, “It was apparently a domestic that had been going on for about five hours at the residence. When the daughter arrived home at about 9:30 p.m., the domestic escalated between the wife, the daughter and the victim.

“He apparently pulled a gun and was holding it to the head of the mom,” Lockhart said.

Lockhart said the guns found at the scene included a .38-caliber revolver, which is the gun investigators believed Foreman was shot with. Deputies also found a .41-caliber special revolver, with which Lockhart said he was unfamiliar. That gun may have been the weapon Foreman was allegedly pointing at his wife.

Lockhart said it was believed that Foreman may have been drinking all evening, but his blood alcohol content will be determined by the toxicology tests done by the state medical examiner.

He said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) will most likely not be called in to assist with the investigation because there is little doubt how Foreman was killed. The mother and daughter, Shelly and Felicia respectively, were interviewed at the sheriff’s office. Neither one was arrested, and both were released, Lockhart said.

“I have no doubt that it would have been a double homicide,” Lockhart said, if Foreman had not been shot, suggesting that the shooting was most likely self defense.

Lockhart said Greg Burnsed, music minister at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, came to the scene to help the family.

“He has become like our chaplain,” Lockhart said. “He was a great help for the family.”

Lockhart said investigators are continuing their investigation, and hoped to have their reports complete by Friday evening or early Monday. Those reports will be submitted to the district attorney’s office.

The district attorney will determine if any formal charges will be filed, Lockhart said.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in the initial investigation, Lockhart said.

Funeral services for Foreman are pending at Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. A complete obituary will be published in Your TIMES as soon as available.
