Jerry S. Moore, district attorney for Sequoyah, Adair, Cherokee and Wagoner Counties, announced last week that during the Child Support Docket in Sequoyah County District Court on Dec. 17 on person was sentenced to jail for failure to pay child support.

Moore said Shellie Coggins Wilkinson received a jail sentence for failure to pay.

Also, four people failed to appear in court and bench warrants were issued for those who failed to appear as summoned. The non-custodial parents for whom warrants were issued are:

—William Adams who owes $1,816.94

—Kelly Lewis Deiter who owes $1,794.45

—Brain McElyea who owes $3,212

—Cole Stone who owes $6,480

Anyone with information about where these or other wanted persons can be found should call any local law enforcement officer for immediate apprehension.

Other parents who are obligated to pay child support paid a total of $2,109.71 in open court during the Child Support Docket, Moore said.

The Oklahoma legislature and Congress recently enacted laws to allow Child Support Enforcement Offices to collect child support owed from non-custodial parents who receive payments from Social Security, Worker’s Compensation Court and regular employment paychecks. Employers can be fined $200 a day for not mailing child support payments, which have been withheld from an employee’s paycheck.

i too was on the delinquent list years past and i stepped up and straightened out my arrears. what i dont understand is why DHS is so adamant about collections but turns a blind eye to visitation issues? btw myself, myself and my ex eliminated DHS from the payment process and everything is working much better. if DHS were a private business they would be out of business....
