Several opportunities are available for individuals to work in their communities as census takers, supervisors, recruiters or clerks with starting pay at $10 per hour. Local census takers will locate households, explain the purpose of the census, conduct interviews and record responses on paper forms.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau Web site, www.census.gov, the census is conducted every 10 years to help determine government representation and allocations of federal funds for use on roads, parks, schools and safety.
Testing sessions are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at Cherokee Nation Career Services Sallisaw office, 1502 W. Choctaw. Sessions are 90 minutes long with the last session starting at 5 p.m. Testing is the initial step for employment consideration. Applicants should bring their driver’s license, Social Security card and CDIB card. Testing is open to all area residents.
