Burial was in Citizens Cemetery, in Fort Gibson, under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Fort Gibson.
Mr. Gladd was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Tahlequah, to Joseph “Tang” and Pauline (Lowery) Gladd. He died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, in Tahlequah.
Mr. Gladd served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1952. He was a professional race horse trainer. He enjoyed coon hunting. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and of the Fort Gibson First Free Will Baptist Church.
He married Joan Benge, June 20, 1953, in Tahlequah.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joan Gladd of the home; son, Lee “Bully” Gladd of Fort Gibson; granddaughters, Tracey Patrick and her husband, Ryan, of Fort Gibson and Stephanie Clinton and her husband, Tim, of Hulbert; grandsons, Preston Gladd and his wife, Kristi of El Paso, Texas, Garrett Gladd and Ethan Gladd both of Sallisaw; great-grandson, Blake Patrick of Fort Gibson; great-granddaughters, Brookelyn Patrick of Fort Gibson, Rylee Clinton of Hulbert and Alexia Gladd of El Paso; sisters, Betty Jo Minor, Sarah and her husband, Charles Baker, Patti and her husband, Jim Cookson, all of Tahlequah, Jean and her husband, Glenn Dunlap, of Augusta, Ga. and Gladys and her husband, M. E. McNeil, of Cameron, Mo.; brothers, Jerry and his wife, Evelyn Gladd, of Tahlequah and Frank and his wife, Janet Gladd, of Pawnee; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Shryln Gladd Lee, sister, Mary Lou Dobson and brother, Paul Gladd.
Pallbearers were Dale Haraway, Steve Cooper, Ryan Patrick, Tim Clinton, Justin White and Jim Bradley.
Honorary pallbearers were George White, Donnie Worley, Andy Gladd, Ronnie Benge, Reece Cookson and Terry Doby.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
