Dragstrip’s banquet slated for Saturday
The second-annual racers banquet for Woods Brothers Raceway will be Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Fort Smith, Ark.
The banquet will start at 6 p.m.with dinner followed by an awards presentation. Anyone interested in drag racing is welcome to attend the banquet and the cost per meal is $10.
The top five in the No E class and the Super Pro class will be honored, plus some surprise awards. The schedule for the 2009 season will be available at the banquet.
Polebenders plan Saturday tournament
The third Polebenders catfish tournament of the season is set for Saturday, Jan. 31, at Sallisaw Landing.
The tournament will last from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry fee is $50 per team and $10 for the Big Fish Jackpot.

SHS Boosters plan Super Bowl rib sale
The Sallisaw Basketball Booster Club is now accepting orders for its annual Super Bowl Rib Sale.
The ribs cost $15 per rack and may be ordered from any Sallisaw basketball player or booster club member.
The ribs will be available to be picked up on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1, between noon and 2 p.m. in front of Marvin’s Food Warehouse.
RHS softballers to host spaghetti dinner
The Roland Lady Rangers softball team will be having a spaghetti dinner on Friday, Feb. 6, before the Roland/Sallisaw basketball game.
It will be $5 per person and includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and a drink. The dinner will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 in the junior high cafeteria.
Youth League sets dates for softball sign-ups
The Sallisaw Youth League Girls Fastpitch Softball Association will be having sign-ups for the upcoming summer league.
Sign-ups will be Feb. 3 and also Feb. 17 at the Sallisaw Youth League Building (two doors west of Sallisaw City Hall) from 6:30-8 p.m.
Age divisions are eight-under (coach pitch), 10-under (machine pitch), 12-under and 14-under. The cut-off date is December 31. The age a girl is on January 1, 2008 is the age division in which she can play. Each player is required to pay $30 to join the Youth League. If your girl is already on a team, she does not need to sign-up. Signing up does not guarantee your child will be placed on a team.

Fastpitch softball coaches to meet on Feb. 23
The Sallisaw Youth League Girls Fastpitch Softball Association will be having a coaches meeting Feb. 23 at the OSU County Extension Building next to the Rodeo Grounds at 7 p.m.

Muldrow baseball sign-ups planned
Muldrow Youth League baseball sign-ups have been scheduled for Feb. 7 and 14.
Players ages three through 15 are eligible to play in the league and may sign up between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day at the Muldrow Middle School gym.

Basketball fan could win $5,000 at Sallisaw
The Sallisaw Basketball Booster Club is giving fans the opportunity to win $5,000 through a generous donation from First National Bank.
One lucky will fan will be selected to take a half-court shot for $5,000 at halftime of the Sallisaw-Muldrow boys’ game on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Chances are being sold for $1 each or six for $5.
Tickets are available from all Sallisaw Basketball Booster Club members and are also being sold at Sallisaw’s middle school and high school home games.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and in attendance for the drawing on Feb. 3. Additional rules and guidelines apply.
Gore to host youth baseball tournament
The Steve Owens Sports Complex in Gore will be hosting a preseason baseball tournament March 13-15.
The Gore Preseason Open will have brackets for eight-and-under, nine-and-under, 10-and-under and 11-and-under teams. The cost to enter is $100 per eight-and-under team or $125 for the older age groups.
Umpires are also needed for the tournament.

Sallisaw to retire Fine‘s jersey on Feb. 3
There will be a number of special events taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 3, when Sallisaw hosts Muldrow in high school basketball.
Between games, Sallisaw will retire Derek Fine’s No. 20 high school jersey. The former Black Diamond recently wrapped up his rookie season with the Buffalo Bills after a successful college career at Kansas.
In addition, there will be a $5,000 halfcourt shot at halftime of the boys’ game. Mrs. Jordan’s Dance School will be performing at halftime of the girls’ game and the SHS junior class will host a chili supper from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 in the cafeteria.
