Billy Ed Brooks, Ward 4 incumbent in Roland, is questioning the eligibility of his opponent, Paul Henry Moreland.

Brooks, Ward 4 Trustee who has held his position for two years, is checking to see if Moreland meets the requirements to run for candidacy. Brooks is claiming Moreland is not a resident of Ward 4.

A Sequoyah County Election Board hearing was scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday in the county commissioners’ office.

In the answer to the contest of candidacy, Moreland declared that he is a lawful candidate for the office claiming he is a resident at 154 Shady Lane Rd., which is located in Ward 4.

“He has no idea what he is talking about, I was leasing a house located at 101 West Howard and moved from it in October to my new residence at 154 Shady Lane Rd. My house is just around the corner and two houses down from the other and it is still located in Ward 4,” Moreland said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
