McCurtain edges Webbers Falls in district finals

WEBBERS FALLS - Despite falling in Saturday night’s Class B Area III District 7 championship games, both the Webbers Falls boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will move on to the regional playoffs.

The Warriors came the closest to a district title, playing McCurtain close before suffering a 63-60 setback on Saturday night in the boys’ final.

Jacob Glad poured in 18 points for Webbers Falls, while Chad Dandridge and Levi Sims added 16 and 10, respectively.

McCurtain, which was led by Wesley Brice’s 26 points, will play in the regional semifinal at 8 p.m. Thursday against Boynton-Moton.

Webbers Falls slipped to 15-8 with the loss and dropped into the regional consolation bracket. The Warriors will play 19th-ranked Summit Christian at 3 p.m. Thursday in Webbers Falls.

The Warriors were coming off an 82-63 first-round win over Schulter on Friday night.

Sims torched the visitors for 27 points in that game, while Dakota Shipley dropped in another 17 and Colton Carter had 13 in the victory.

Rebekah Shimp poured in 32 points on Saturday night to guide McCurtain past the Lady Warriors in the district final.

Webbers Falls, which knocked off Schulter in the opening round on Thursday, was led by Alisha Carter’s 14 points. Katie Smith added 12 for the Lady Warriors.

The loss put Webbers Falls in the regional consolation bracket. The Lady Warriors will play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday on their home court against Summit Christian.
