Ricky Orville Peppers, 29, of Sallisaw was arrested Feb.18 for failure to register as a sex offender.

Peppers was convicted of second-degree rape in Sequoyah County on Feb. 2, 2008, for the rape of a 14-year-old known to the offender, but not related to her.

Peppers must register every 90 days for life as a sex offender by state law. At 6 p.m. on Feb. 18, Sallisaw Police Officer Benjamin Smith was notified that Peppers had been staying longer then three days at a residence on south Shiloh Road.

Smith went to the residence to locate Peppers. The homeowner stated Peppers was inside and let the officers inside the home. After a positive identification Murray and Smith placed Peppers under arrest for failure to register as a sex offender.

Peppers was taken to the Sallisaw Police Department and booked into the city jail. He was released on a $10,000 bond at 8 a.m. Feb. 19.

According to court records, Peppers had two previous arrests for failure to register as a sex offender.

Peppers’ arraignment is scheduled for March 11 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
