An investigation by law enforcement agents into illegal drug sites, drug users, and drug distributors in Sequoyah County is cracking down on suspected drug users and distributors.

On March 19 five people staying at the Travel Lodge Motel in Roland became aware that several law enforcement agencies had made them a part of the ongoing investigations to crack down on illegal drug activity.

The Sequoyah County Sheriffs Office, Sallisaw Police Department, Roland Police Department and the District 27 Drug Task Force served a search warrant for the motel room and found about one-quarter of an ounce of “ice” methamphetamines and several items of paraphernalia.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart reported Herman Wheeler, Lynn Henry, Latsha Andrews, Dale Jacobs, and Cana Mcgehee were taken into custody. Lockhart said in his report that Wheeler tried to elude the officers by fleeing in his vehicle.

Lockhart reported that Wheeler was booked into jail for possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to elude an officer.

The four other suspects found in the room were booked on possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, Lockhart said in the report.

Various smoking devices, scales, a cutter, baggies of methamphetamines prepared for distribution and several empty baggies were discovered and found on each of the suspects.

All five suspects where taken to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
