WARNER - It took two days and two different fields, but the Gore Pirates eventually claimed a 13-1 win over Warner in the first game of their Class 2A district playoff series.

The contest began on Wednesday at Gore, but heavy rain forced a postponement with the Pirates leading 3-0 midway through the first inning. When play resumed on Thursday at Connors State College, the Pirates continued their domination while improving to 20-10 on the season.

Game 2 of the series was rained out on Thursday afternoon and was scheduled to resume on Friday afternoon at Connors State.

Gore pitcher Devan Rineheart picked up the win in Game 1 by tossing a complete-game four-hitter for the Pirates. The junior left-hander walked five, but made up for it by striking out 12 and helping his cause at the plate. Rineheart batted 4-for-4 with four doubles and an RBI in the game.

Warner pulled within 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning, but Rineheart responded with an RBI double to put Gore up 4-1 in the top of the second.

Logan Andrews tacked on another run for Gore in the third inning. The sophomore first baseman reached base on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on an error for a 5-1 lead.

Gore’s big inning came in the fourth, when the Pirates exploded for six runs to take total control of the game. Jaykob Taylor led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch. Ryan Ohl hit an RBI single and Andrews followed him with another single. Both scored on a Warner error to make it 9-1 and Colten Clay singled in two more runs for an 11-1 Pirate advantage.

Rineheart led off the top of the fifth with his fourth double of the game and Dylan Humphrey singled. Ohl drove in Rineheart and Humphrey raced home on a wild pitch to complete the scoring.

The Pirates won by the run rule after Rineheart fanned three Warner batters in the bottom of the fifth.

Gore had 14 hits in the triumph, including a 3-for-3 performance by Taylor. Ohl and Andrews both batted 2-for-3 for the Pirates.
