Ron Cagle with Kelly Engineering said the contract will allow engineers to begin working on repairing a slide area that has been difficult to maintain for District 2 Commissioner Steve Carter.
Cagle said preliminary project work will cost about $57,000 and the reconstruction itself will cost about $1 million. He told the commissioners that all the funding has been approved. Now the county must do a land survey, collect geotechnical data and design plans to make the repair. He explained the geotechnical data will include drilling to determine what soil and rock might be under the repaired road and the survey will help determine what slope the road is at.
The road collapsed about one year ago and has continued to cause problems, Carter said.
In other business the commissioners approved the right-of-way, public utility and encroachment agreement for two small bridge replacement projects on Shiloh Road, near the intersection with Lenington, which is in Carter’s District.
Cagle also reported to the commissions that 22 bridge inspections had been completed in the county. He explained that the federal government requires the inspections, and requires that the bridges to “be load rated to make sure the safety factor is there.”
Cagle said one of the inspections was for a new bridge on old U.S. Highway 64 near the golf course in Sallisaw. He said the federal government requires the bridge be inspected within 90 days of its completion.
Court Clerk Vicki Beaty asked commissioners for approval to change office.
