Dear Editor,

I am a new kid on the block. My wife of 45 years and I chose Sallisaw over several other cities in Oklahoma to move to. One of the main reasons was because Sallisaw was growing faster than most other cities the same size. Having been here three years now, we are very pleased. The town continues to grow with newer bigger business. You can go to any business in town and they seem to be busy. The economic downturn hasn’t hurt Sallisaw like other cities. Our service shop is doing well.

My wife and I like to eat out. We also like to have a glass of wine with our meals. We can’t do that in Sallisaw yet. So we go to Fort Smith to eat. The food isn’t any better. The service isn’t any better. But we like our wine. I think drinks in restaurants would be a big economic boost to Sallisaw. I will vote for and hope it passes.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
