A Sallisaw man pleaded guilty to drug possession in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw, Sequoyah County District Attorney Jerry Moore announced Wednesday.

Darrell Johnson pleaded guilty of methamphetamine possession with the intent to distribute. Johnson was sentenced to 42 months in the state prison.

Johnson was arrested after agents from the District 27 Drug Task Force, Sallisaw Police Department, and Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant on his home east of Sallisaw.

Officers found a large amount of methamphetamines, packaging materials and gram weight scales in the living room of the home.

“Drug Dealers such as Johnson often need to get a dose of prison life before they change their ways,” Kyle Waters, the assistant district attorney, said.

Meth is one of the most dangerous drugs available. I think it would be a good time for public flogging. If those people want to kill themselves, fine. But I feel sorry for their children that are neglected and thrive depraved, and for the family members that still love them and think they will get better. It should definetly NOT be legalized. It is poison.

Mr Montgomery we've also been fighting crimes against children, burglaries & rape. Through the years, we've spent trillions on these crimes too.The perpetrators of these crimes also LOVE their addictive behavior. should we simply leave them alone? People high on meth are a serious detriment to society just as these other criminals are. Have you never had to deal with the actions of a someone high on meth? Try picking up the pieces of the lives of their children. Only people with brains fried by drugs come up with this silly argument that you have presented. LaVonne Pinkston

You can bust every meth lab and meth user you can come up with and you will not even START to put a dent in the huge demand for meth. Meth addicts LOVE their meth and if you shut down the local labs then the Mexican mafia will simply increase the amount of meth it exports into the USA to meet the new demand. Methamphetamine should be legal. Mexico just legalized possession of small amounts of drugs. Portugal decriminalized all drugs in 2001. Legalizing meth would kill meth labs, meth houses and the meth mafia overnight. A group of 10,000 very serious policemen, prosecutors, attorneys and citizens have formed a group to legalize ALL drugs, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (http://leap.cc ) They see what happened when we legalized alcohol in 1932 as a good example of how drug legalization would work. They're sick of chasing drug users and sending innocent people to prison for decades just because they like to get high. This foolish war on drugs has lasted 37 years and cost us over a TRILLION dollars and we are not an inch closer to stopping drugs. Mark Montgomery boboberg@nyc.rr.com
