The members of Brent Rural Fire Department will hold a benefit barbeque rib sale beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday to raise money for one of the firemen who has been stricken with cancer.

The rib sale will be held at the fire station, nine miles south of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59, Brent Fire Chief Darrell Vix said.

Vix said, “The proceeds of the sale will go to a Brent firefighter, Danny Cruz, who has been stricken with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Danny has no health insurance and treatments are very expensive. We felt like we needed to do something to help with the expense.”

The ribs will be sold by the rack and will sell for $15 per rack. They will be slow cooked over an oak and hickory fire and some will be cooked with barbeque sauce and some will not so customers can buy their choice.

Anyone wanting to make a contribution to Cruz can do so at the rib sale or can mail donations to the fire department at P.O. Box 116, Sallisaw, Okla. 74955.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
