Graveside services for Gilbert C. Phelps, 85, of Beggs, are being held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Seabolt Cemetery near Sallisaw, under the direction of McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

Mr. Phelps was born June 30, 1923, in Short, to Scott Conway and Pearl Minnie (Howell) Phelps. He died Sunday, June 14, 2009, in Muskogee.

Mr. Phelps joined the Army on Feb. 23, 1943, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 21, 1946. He was retired from Kerr Glass in Sand Springs and enjoyed going fishing.

He married Ester Eve Weaver Dec. 4, 1947, in Union Town, Ark.

Survivors include his wife, Ester of the home; two sons, Gilberty C. Phelps Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Beggs and Jerrett Dale Phelps and his wife, Sue, of Sand Springs; grandson, Doug Phelps and his wife, Jill; two granddaughters, Evett Cowen and her husband, Trent and Amy Phelps; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Clayton Phelps of Cottonwood, Calif., Jay Phelps of Beggs, Lloyd Phelps of Oilton and Wayne Phelps of Cushing; one sister, Vera Gerney of Cottonwood; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Charlie Phelps, Clarence Phelps and Glen Phelps.
