Dear Editor:

We would like to thank everyone who participated, donated and came out for the 4th annual Richard Jordan Celebrity Weekend with the Pros June 12 and 13 at St. John Stadium in Vian. Without everyone’s help, we could have not put on another successful event again this year.

Many thanks to Vian Public School for use of their facilities, and the coaches and players from Vian, Keys, Panama and Roland Schools who all participated in this year’s camp; George and Carol Harris and tenkillerproperty.com for their cash donation; Bill Lemmon, Curtis Kittrell, Anthony England and Marvin’s IGA in Vian for donating 800 hot dogs and buns; Bill Burlison, who cooked all those hot dogs in the hot sun for us; First National Bank of Sallisaw, four cases of bottled water and cups; Tramera Fletcher and Oklahoma Healthcare Solutions, 10 cases of bottled water; And Pedro and Raphaela Hernandez and Joe Valdivia at Cazadores Mexican Restaurant, 20 two-liters of pop; Randy and Tammy Sandlin, nine two-liters of pop; District 2 County Commissioner Steve Carter, six two-liters of pop and one case of bottled water and to Vian Tenkiller News/Eastern Times Register Sports Editor Bob Swofford for taking all of our photos and team pictures for us.

To our wonderful volunteers: Luke Johnson, Brandt Brown, Sydney Remer and Austin White-who all volunteered on Friday to get everything together before the event and then came back on Saturday to help again; and to Saturday’s volunteers: Camille Carlton and members of the Vian High School cheerleading squad; Elsie Johnson and Raylena Worley; Carlotta Scarborough and Sumari Moon; Randy, Tammy and Jake Sandlin; Dennis, Tramera, Graylon, Whitt and Dreighton Fletcher; Kyla Walters and Anthony and Kyle England.

There were many parents who also helped at the carnival on Saturday, too, and even though we didn’t get all the names of everyone who pitched in, we are thankful to each of you for helping where help was needed.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

RICHARD JORDAN, VIAN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR RAY JORDAN AND EVENT CO-CHAIR AMIE REMER

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
