A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service, who allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his former girlfriend and fled the state of Texas, was taken into custody Saturday night at a truck stop in Roland.

Hubert Earl Biggars was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), Investigations Division.

Biggars allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his former girlfriend, then fled the state of Texas. But the victim escaped before Biggars left the state according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Through investigation it was determined Biggars was at the Pilot truck stop in Roland according to the Marshals report.

OHP Captain Damon Tucker said he was contacted by the U.S. Marshals Service, Fort Worth Task Force Division, and was told a fugitive was tracked to a truck stop in Roland.

Tucker said after he was contacted he called for additional manpower. Tucker informed OHP Trooper Danny Upton and Lt. Jason Holt with the OHP Investigation Division. He also contacted members of the U.S. Marshals Service out of Fort Smith, Ark., and Muskogee.

Tucker said it was his understanding that Biggars was wanted for kidnapping and attempted murder. He said he understood that Biggars held a knife to his former girlfriend’s throat.

Dressed in street clothes and undercover, Tucker and an agent with the U.S. Marshals Service Fort Smith Division entered the Pilot store and located the suspect at the pay phones.

“He was on the phone attempting to transfer money. He didn’t know who we were until we identified ourselves. He didn’t say a word. We just took him into custody,” Tucker said.

After Biggars was taken into custody the victim’s 2006 Jeep Liberty was recovered in the parking lot of the Pilot store.

According to Tucker, Biggars was spotted in the Kansas area Friday night but was unable to be taken into custody for unknown reasons.

Biggars was taken to the Sequoyah County Jail where he is being held awaiting extradition back to Texas.
