Gore submits $339,000 grant application

Gore town administrator said during the town meeting held July 14 that he submitted a grant application for $339,000 in hopes of getting approved for a brand new fire station.

Horace Lindley, town administrator said the application was filed through FEMA’s Homeland Security Grant Program, which is a primary funding mechanism for building and sustaining national preparedness capabilities.

These grants fund a range of preparedness activities, including planning, organization, equipment purchase, training, exercises, and management and administration costs.

“It will take about three or four months before we will hear anything about the grant,” Lindley said.

Lindley said if the grant application is approved, the tentative plans are to build a new station behind city hall.

“There is also a two-bay garage connected to city hall that is used to house fire trucks. If the grant application is approved the garage could be used as a new meeting room for the town,” Lindley said.

ess, Vernon Laffoon was employed as Gore Police Officer. Lindley said he was hired at a starting pay of $10.

During the regular meeting for Gore Public Works the purchase of a 2008 Case CX36B trackhoe for $29,847 was approved. Lindley said a DT255 trailer is needed to haul the trackhoe. He said it would be purchased for $9,995. Lindley said the trackhoe is need for waterlines and ditches.

The financial report and purchase orders for June were approved.
