Morgan, a Democrat, previously served as mayor of Muldrow.
Morgan said his business successes stem from his entrepreneurial efforts, including real estate, personal finance, and healthcare companies. As an executive, Morgan said he quickly became a leader in organizational management, budgetary issues, acquisitions, contracts and procedural policy.
Morgan said he took this business and executive experience to the Muldrow City Council where he served from 1992 to 1994, and then to the mayor’s office, where he served until 1998. As mayor Morgan said he helped orchestrate major highway construction, managed statewide and national press, and lobbied with local, county, state and federal officials to acquire money to improve Muldrow.
Morgan said, “The citizens of Sequoyah County have not escaped the effects of the national economic downturn. Now is the time to have proven experience and leadership on the county commission to help guide the county through budgetary revisions, road construction, and other important issues.”
Morgan has served as chairman of the Muldrow Public Works Authority, as president of the Muldrow Library Building Committee, with the Muldrow Youth Club, and as a member of the Muldrow Chamber of Commerce and the Eastern Oklahoma Development District board.
A graduate of Muldrow High School, Morgan attended Northeastern Oklahoma College in Tahlequah. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserves in 1976.
Morgan said he has worked with Bruce Tabor, the current District 1 County Commissioner, on numerous occasions over the years on projects that benefited eastern Sequoyah County.
The District 1 County Commissioner’s post will be one of the posts on the 2010 election ballot.
