Dear Editor,

On June 27 the Special Victims Unit of the Sallisaw Police Department teamed up with the Sallisaw N.O.W. Coalition and the Sallisaw N.O.W. Youth Coalition to sell food items at the Old Timers Day. I cannot express my appreciation to those that helped, either by donating funds, labor or food items. I wish to thank Dan Callahan and Mark Long from the Coop for the use of the tanks. I thank Walmart and Marvin’s Foods. Thank you to Sallisaw N.O.W. Coalition and the Sallisaw N.O.W. Youth Coalition for presenting the face painting for the kids of all ages. Thank you to Eddie Martin. Thank you to Help In Crisis, Cecil and the Boys and Girls Club, Noreen, for their help. We could not have done it without you. A special thank you to the Special Victim’s Volunteers that stood out in the heat and cooked or served. I hope that next year will be even better. Thank you from the Sallisaw Police Department Special Victim’s Unit.

Sandra Girdner, Sallisaw

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
