Lawrence Barnes, Vian school superintendent, said during the board meeting held Aug. 10 members discussed contracting with an architectural firm for future school building projects.
“We are looking at financing. We are getting ideas of what it may cost to expand,” Barnes said.
The school had around 1,050 students last year, and all Vian students use the cafeteria. Barnes said the cafeteria is overcrowded.
“If the school had another cafeteria, the old cafeteria could be used as a multipurpose room,” Barnes said.
“This is something the board is just discussing. Nothing is drawn out or definite,” Barnes said.
In other business, the resignation of Andrea Farish, middle school languages arts teacher, was accepted. Farish resigned from Vian Public Schools to move back to Texas.
Four teachers were employed on temporary contracts for the 2009-10 school year for the following positions:
—Fallon Casteel, middle school language arts
—Julie Kimble, Title I middle school language arts
—Heath Eubanks, middle school math
—Becky Partain, special education teacher
The board requested the State Board of Education deregulate the number of days the Vian Alternative Academy of Students holds classes per week. The days went from five to four. Barnes said the alternative academy has classes that meet in the evening.
Payroll, encumbrances and warrants for all funds were approved.
