A husband and wife are accused of raping a 15-year-old girl as she slept at the couple’s trailer north of Muldrow in the Mineral Springs area early Saturday.

Sequoyah County UnderSheriff Roger Fuller said the victim was staying the night with a friend at the home of her aunt and uncle. He said behind the house was a trailer that the aunt and uncle let their friends stay in.

“That is where the alleged rape took place,” Fuller said.

Misty, 28, and Billy Joe Arnold, 36, were booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on suspicion of rape, forcible fondling and sexual assault with an object.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said the alleged rape occurred about 4:50 a.m. and the victim was able to escape and run out of the trailer. He said the victim ran until she saw a car and flagged the driver down and called her father for help.

The victim was taken to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, where she was treated and released into her parents’ custody

According to the report, the victim told the deputies that Misty Arnold asked the victim several times if she would sleep in bed with her. When the victim gave in and lay in Misty’s bed she fell asleep only to wake up a short time later to find Misty holding her legs down and Billy having sex with her.

Sequoyah County Deputy Lance Yoakum spoke with Billy Arnold and told Billy Arnold about the allegations being made against him and his wife, Misty. According to the report, Billy Arnold said, “I ain’t touched that girl.”

Deputies questioned Misty who began to cry during the interview and change her story. Misty told deputies that she had asked the victim to get in bed with her and her husband because there wasn’t enough room on the floor.

Misty Arnold told the deputies that she asked the victim if she wanted to have sex with her and her husband and the girl said no. According to the report Misty Arnold started fondling the girl, who told her to stop.

“So I did,” Misty Arnold told deputies.

According to the report, Misty told deputies she grabbed the girl’s legs and held her down while she performed sex acts on her and Billy Arnold started to have sex with the victim.

According to the report, Billy Arnold later confessed to the deputies that he was sorry for lying about what happened. He told deputies that he wanted to come clean. Billy Arnold admitted to performing sex acts on the victim according to the report.

Misty Arnold also told deputies she knew what happened was wrong so she ran after the victim to make sure she was all right. Misty and Billy Joe Arnold was arraigned Wednesday. Jail authorities said Tuesday a bond has not been set.

Lockhart said additional charges may be filed after further investigation.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
