The Roland Christmas parade will be held Dec. 13, parade organizers announced this week.

The annual parade will begin at noon and is sponsored by the Roland Area Chamber of Commerce, which will be joined this holiday season by the Quality of Life Vision Area of the Roland Strategic Planning Program.

The parade will begin at the Roland Shopping Center and will make its way to the Lions Park, next to the swimming pool, where activities will continue until 4 p.m.

Activities will include Christmas caroling by area churches and schools and refreshments as everyone awaits Santa’s special appearance.

The parade will offer prizes in three categories including open, non-profit and antique cars.

This year’s event will include cash payouts of $250, $150 and $50 to the first, second and third place winners in the open category and non-profit category while a $250 judge’s choice award will be given in the antique car category.

The Cherokee Nation Casino is sponsoring this year’s cash payouts and parade entry fees.

All the groups, businesses and churches wishing to sign up for this year’s Christmas parade should contact Jaci Pitts at National Bank of Sallisaw, Roland Banking Center at (918) 427-5551.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
