“He must have been hungry,” Lt. Craig Dunlavy with the Newton Police Department in Kansas said during a telephone interview Thursday.
Robert Cameron Foust, 25, of Alabaster, Ala., was captured at 10:36 p.m. by Salina Police officers about 50 minutes after Foust allegedly robbed Little Caesars Pizza.
Foust is the suspect in robbing the Movie Gallery in Roland at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Roland Police Chief Tommy Sessums said they received information that a robbery suspect may be in the Roland area. Shortly after the Movie Gallery at 104 W. Ray Fine Blvd. was robbed. Sessums said the call came in at 2 p.m. and officers were on the scene at 2:01 p.m.
“Foust showed the clerk his gun and demanded money. Several witnesses on the scene gave a positive identification of the suspect when we showed them a picture of the man the U.S. Marshals were looking for to question about other robberies,” Sessums said.
The clerk told police an armed robber moved her to the back of the business and told her to wait there for 60 seconds. She said when she heard the bell ring she got out of the back room and called 911. The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of money.
Sessums said the clerk was pretty shook up but she was doing all right.
Almost seven hours later, at 8:45 p.m. Little Caesars Pizza in Newton was hit.
Dunlavy said that shortly before the Little Caesars Pizza was robbed, the police department was alerted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service that a man suspected to be involved in several robberies was tracked to Newton.
Foust is a possible suspect in convenience and movie store robberies in Alabama, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Dunlavy said the owner of the Little Caesars Pizza in Newton is a former law enforcement agent.
“The owner knew what to watch for and gave as much detail as he could. We alerted all the surrounding agencies and almost two hours later Salina police spotted the vehicle Foust was believed to be driving.
“Salina Police walked into the convenience store and noticed he was warming up food in the microwave. I’m sure he didn’t get the opportunity to eat,” Dunlavy chortled.
Dunlavy said Foust had two other people with him at the time of his arrest.
Stanley G. Milstead, 28, of Coweta, and Jacob E. Jones, 22, of Shoals, Ind., were also arrested by Salina police. Dunlavy said they will be looking at robbery charges as well.
“Milstead and Jones claim they have no involvement with the robberies but, so far the investigation has proven otherwise,” Dunlavy said. “Foust confessed to robbing stores.”
“This is all still preliminary. We are still investigating. It’s too soon to determine what is going to happen,” Dunlavy said.
Police recovered a black semiautomatic handgun and a small amount of cash. Authorities said Foust was recently released from prison in Alabama for similar crimes.
The U.S. Marshals Service had been tracking Foust for several days. Foust is believed to be the same man who robbed the Athens, Ala., Movie Gallery on Monday night. Foust is also wanted in connection with robberies at two other Alabama Movie Gallery stores.
Foust is being held without bond in Harvey County Jail in Newton, Kan., Police say the case will be turned over to federal agents.
