Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw will officially welcome Terry Hoyt, DO, to the Sequoyah Memorial Hospital family Friday, and dedicate SMH Family Medicine Clinic.

The clinic is at 1109 E. Cherokee, next to Trudeau’s Optometry Clinic.

Holly Dickson, the hospital’s director of public relations, said, “Sequoyah Memorial Hospital is excited to welcome Dr. Hoyt to the team. An open house will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday to officially welcome him. Refreshments will be served, a tour of the clinic will be available, and free blood pressure checks will be offered. Information about Dr. Hoyt and Sequoyah Memorial Hospital will be available. The open house will also include a dedication ribbon cutting with the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce at 11:30 a.m.”

Formerly practicing family medicine in Van Buren, Ark., and working in the Sequoyah Memorial Hospital emergency room since 2003, Dr. Hoyt comes to the hospital as an already-valued physician and resource, Dickson said.

“Sequoyah Memorial has no doubt that Dr. Hoyt will grow to become a healthcare leader in the community,” Dickson said.

Hoyt completed medical school at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an osteopathic internship at Hillcrest Health Center in Tulsa, and a family practice residency at Kansas University School of Medicine. Since completing his education, Hoyt has focused on family practice while also serving in emergency care at Sequoyah Memorial and prior to this, has served in numerous other facilities for the past 20 years. Hoyt has been board certified in Family Medicine since 1993. He is currently serving as president of the Arkansas Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Practice. In 2008, he served as delegate from Arkansas to the American Osteopathic Association.

Sequoyah Memorial Hospital Family Medicine is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Patients can call (918) 790-3004 to make an appointment.

Hoyt is accepting new patients.

Hoyt also joins a rapidly growing healthcare system. Sequoyah Memorial has an active medical staff of physicians, offers medical imaging, rehabilitative services, a sleep disorder center, hospice and homecare, and the sale of home medical equipment. Sequoyah Memorial also operates one of the busiest emergency rooms in the area, seeing over 1,400 patients a month.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
