On Sept. 16 a nearby resident saw the teen shoot the cow and reported it to authorities. The owner of the cow, Jerry Pruitt of Nicut, said this was not the first time he’s had a run in with the teen.
“He’s been a problem child every since he was a little boy. I don’t know what it will take to straighten him out but he needs some help,” Pruitt said.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said the teen admitted to previously chasing another cow down and slicing the cow’s throat.
Lockhart said the teen is notorious for getting into trouble and has threatened neighbors.
“I’ve received calls about him terrorizing neighbors, threatening to kill dogs and threatening to burn their houses down,” Lockhart said. “That’s not normal for a juvenile.”
The teens parents, Robert Earl, 36, and Cherylind Spoon, 35, of Roland were taken into custody after deputies discovered 14 guns, including high powered assault rifles in the family’s home.
Cherylind Spoon was arrested on outstanding warrants. Robert Spoon is a convicted felon and will face charges of being a felon in possession of firearms according to Lockhart.
Lockhart said he wanted the citizens that have called the sheriff’s office about the family to know they are going to do what they can.
Robert Spoon is being held in the Sequoyah County Jail on a $20,000 bond and Cherylind Spoon is being held without bond. The teen was taken to a state juvenile facility.
