The two teams will meet for the fifth time on Friday night when the Grizzlies take the long bus ride to South Coffeyville for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Gans swept all three meetings between the schools from 2000 through 2002. The series resumed last season and South Coffeyville posted a 36-6 win at Gans.
The Lions enter this year’s game with an 0-5 record, but Gans head coach Trent Holt said the Grizzlies must be ready to play on Friday night.
“We definitely won’t be taking anybody lightly,” said Holt. “Last year, they were in the same boat and came down here and drilled us on homecoming. They more or less dominated us.”
South Coffeyville is 0-3 in District B-4 and the Lions are coming off a 64-14 loss to Class C No. 5-ranked Covington-Douglas.
Gans is 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the district after defeating Copan last week. Holt said the Grizzlies can’t affort to let up as they chase one of the league’s four playoff berths.
“We have to continue winning because it looks like there could be a team out there with a 7-3 overall record that might not get in the playoffs. We need to win the rest of them to make sure we get in,” said Holt.
