KELLYVILLE - Teven Thompson ran for three touchdowns and the Roland defense notched its first shutout of the season as the Rangers won 35-0 at Kellyville on Thursday night.

Roland evened its record at 2-2 in District 3A-4 and improved to 3-4 overall while holding the Ponies to minus 21 yards on the ground and forcing four turnovers.

Thompson sparked the offense with 160 yards rushing on 12 attempts, including a 53-yard touchdown run on Roland’s first play.

Jeremy Morris set up the next Roland score when he rambled 56 yards down to the Kellyville 3-yard line. Thompson scored from there and Jeff Roberts added the extra point to hand Roland a 14-0 lead entering the second quarter.

The Rangers scored again before halftime, this time on special teams. A bad snap got away from the Kellyville punter and Blake Brunk scooped up the ball and raced 23 yards for the touchdown. Roberts kicked the extra point and it was 21-0 with :16 left in the half.

Roland used a powerful ground game to put the game away in the third quarter. On their first possession of the half, the Rangers marched 51 yards in three plays. Thompson had gains of 7 and 34 yards before scoring on a 10-yard run at the 9:36 mark.

The Rangers put together a 74-yard touchdown drive later in the quarter. Roland moved the ball with eight consecutive running plays before Brooks Robertson tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Gunner Lynch with 3:12 left in the period. Roberts kicked his fifth extra point of the game to cap the scoring for the Rangers.

Morris finished the night with 84 yards rushing on 10 carries. Robertson was 2 of 3 passing for 30 yards and Brunk completed a 2-yard pass to Thompson. Lynch had two receptions for 30 yards.

Roland’s defense got four takeaways as Michael Kightlinger and Alan Cabrera both intercepted passes and Brunk and Kye Woffard recovered fumbles.

Roland will host Checotah on Friday.
