A felony arrest warrant was issued Oct. 19 for a Muldrow man who was charged with first-degree rape in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.

Jonnie Henry Morain Jr. is wanted for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old female. Court records indicate the rape occurred in May 2006.

According to the affidavit, Sequoyah County Investagator Cindy Smith received a report from a juvenile female who said Morain, 39, had sex with her while she was at Morain’s home.

The girl told Smith that Morain laid her down on a couch and removed her clothing. She told police that she told Morain to stop on several occasions.

On Oct. 24, 2008, Smith spoke with Morain who denied the allegations against him. Morain stated he had hugged the girl but nothing more. Morain also told Smith that on one occasion the girl was showering and realized she didn’t have a towel so she asked him to bring her one.

Morain said there might have been contact between him and the girl while the two were wrestling. He explained to Smith that he thought at one time he may have grabbed the girl by the legs and maybe pulled them apart and pulled her to him. According to the report “which would have caused her clothed vaginal area to come into contact with his clothed penis area.”

Morain denied any sexual intercourse or any type of unclothed contact between him and the girl.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
