Webbers Falls looks to finish its 2009 high school football season on a winning note Friday night when the Warriors travel to Pittsburg County to take on Canadian in a non-district game.

Canadian is an independent this season and not competing in any district. The Cougars are 4-4 after falling to third-ranked Maud 46-0 last week. Canadian, which is located about eight miles southwest of Eufaula on State Highway 113, has also defeated Claremore Christian and Midway, and two of the other Cougar losses were to Oaks and Sasakwa.

Six of Canadian’s seniors are quarterback/cornerback Brandon Trentham, linebacker/fullback Joseph Kionute, tight end/cornerback Nolan Hardin, tailback/linebacker Pasha Lenkov, fullback/linebacker Matt Medley and kicker Taylor Smith.

Other seniors are quarterback/safety Shay Reynolds, tailback/cornerback Landon Patillo, tailback/safety Slava Lenkov, linebacker/fullback John Boyer, cornerback/end Sean Dixon, nose guard/guard Dale Queen and defensive ends/tight ends Andrew Gibson and James Koch.

Webbers Falls is 0-9 for the season and 0-7 in District C-4 after the Warriors dropped a 32-12 decision to Bokoshe last Friday.

Sophomore defensive back Tyler Stephens of the Warriors returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown against Bokoshe and senior running back Mitchell Carman ran for a 30-yard touchdown. Carman rushed for 71 yards on 12 carries in the contest.

Corey Crase gave the visiting Tigers a 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdown runs before Carman’s TD run got the Warriors on the board. Stephen Southerland went 35 yards for another Bokoshe touchdown, but the Warriors stayed close thanks to Stephens’ interception return. The defensive touchdown had Webbers Falls within 20-12 entering the fourth quarter.

Mike Baker sealed the win for Bokoshe with a pair of touchdown runs in the fourth period as the Tigers improved to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in District C-4.

Southerland finished as the game’s leading rusher with 16 carries for 158 yards for Bokoshe.
