The Gore Chamber of Commerce announced a Shop Gore! promotion this week, and a Shop Gore! grand prize of $1,000, provided by the Gore chamber.

Shop Gore!, which began Nov. 1, will provide local residents, 18 years and older, with one ticket for every $10 spent at participating businesses. The promotion will end Dec. 10. Employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to win with a ticket obtained at their place of employment, Rena Thorstensen, the chamber media liaison, said.

Thorstensen said that, in addition to the $1,000 grand prize, additional sponsors have donated cash, certificates and merchandise for second and third place winners. The second place winner will receive $100 donated by Cross Telephone, a $50 certificate from Gore Green Country Drug, and a free dinner from each of these three Gore restaurants — Emily’s Tea Room, Jolly Rogers Restaurant, and Jimbo’s Restaurant. The third place winner will receive a Holiday Gift Box, donated by the Lakeview Baptist Church, a $35 certificate for a free pedicure from The Swan Hair Salon, and a $25 gift certificate from Cal2Homa Christmas Tree Farm.

The winning Shop Gore! tickets will be drawn by Santa Claus on Dec. 12 at the Gore Volunteer Fire Station after the Gore Christmas Parade. The winning ticket numbers will be published in the Vian Tenkiller News, and the Sequoyah County Times, and will also be posted on the Gore Chamber of Commerce’s website, www.goreok.net.

Participating merchants include the Gore Short Stop, Tenkiller Liquor, Tenkiller Trading Company, Fabric Patch Quilt Shop, Emily’s Tea Room/Garden Gate, Anne-Paige/Vintage Rescue, Cal2Homa Christmas Tree Farm, Ogg’s Tire & Lube, Harp’s Grocery, Bill’s Tires, True Value/Just Ask Rental, Fin & Feather Gift Shop, Soda Steve’s at the Fin, Jolly Roger’s Restaurant, Jimbo’s Restaurant, Gore NAPA Auto Parts, Greenleaf State Park, Tenkiller State Park, Southlake Veterinary Clinic, Dave’s Bait & Tackle, B & J Restaurant, The Swan Hair Salon, Five Oaks Manor Reunion House, and Bighorse Photography.

Each participating merchant will have a Shop Gore! flyer prominently posted on their door or window, and will provide one ticket for each $10 spent.

Thorstensen said, “Everyone is urged to remember that the more Shop Gore! tickets collected – and safely put away – the better the chances of winning!”

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
