ARKOMA - The Gans defense scored two touchdowns in the opening period on Thursday night to spark the Grizzlies to a 46-6 win over Arkoma in the final game of the regular season.

Gans returned a fumble and an interception for touchdowns as the Grizzlies jumped out to a 24-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

They went on to claim the win, improving to 7-3 overall and 7-1 in District B-4. The second-place Grizzlies will get a home playoff game next week.

The offense accounted for the first score of the night as the Grizzlies took their first drive and went 49 yards in seven plays. Braily Couffer got the touchdown on a 2-yard run and Weston Choate ran for the conversion to make it 8-0 at the 5:06 mark.

Less than 20 seconds later, Gans had scored again. Cody Johnson picked up an Arkoma fumble and returned it five yards to the end zone. Couffer added the two-point conversion for a 16-0 edge.

Gans’ second defensive TD of the quarter was scored by Choate, who picked off an Arkoma pass and ran it back 44 yards. Hunter Holt ran for the conversion with 1:12 left in the opening stanza.

Choate added a 47-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to hand the visitors a 30-0 halftime lead.

Gans continued to pull away after the break. Kaleb Kepke went 41 yards for a touchdown and Mike Royal passed to Couffer for the two-point conversion, extending the lead to 38-8.

Arkoma spoiled the Grizzlies’ shutout bid later in the quarter as quarterback Colton Miesner threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Christian Davis.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
